So you have a new pet and are starting to think about how you plan to successfully accomplish dog house training, well good for you! Dog house training is critical if you want to have a pet that will be happy and contented. Most dogs prefer to be with their human (that's you) and will not be very happy living outdoors.
********** TRAINING DEFINITION **********
House training is NOT letting your dog run free in your home and expecting them NOT to go to the bathroom. Housetraining IS having control of your pet to limit accidents indoors while encouraging the right behavior which is relieving themselves only outside. Crate training is the means to communicate your desires to your puppy about desired bathroom habits.
Crate training uses control and confinement to manage your pets' freedom and help with your training efforts. Below are some Tips and Suggestions to start your dog house training effort off right.
TIP #1
Dogs use voice inflection to gather meaning and interact with humans. All canines have a very limited vocabulary which means that you need to use the same word to mean the same thing all the time. Potty, Going outside, Bathroom, Have to PEE, etc. are all different to a dog even if they mean basically the same to us.
TIP#2
If you want your pet to respect you, it's important not to get frustrated or angry. Have patience. They will, sooner or later understand what you are trying to teach them and once they have it, the training will be solid.
TIP#3
No matter how frustrating your puppy may seem, remember they AREN'T out to get you. Dogs simply do not have the reasoning skills to sit and think up ways to "get even" with you. So you should never hit, yell, scold or otherwise discipline your dog in a negative way.
TIP#4
Watch your puppy or have them crated whenever they're not outside. Crate Training is based on you getting and keeping control of your pets actions while indoors. This means that unless they're being supervised, they need to be confined to the safety of their crate.
Keeping your puppy under control means either watching her every minute or confining her in her cage. What you want to keep your puppy involved with what you're doing in the house but not allowing her to roam free is an important key to successful dog house training.
For the best and quickest dog house training result, you need to keep your dog close to you and involved in your life as much as possible. Not having to continuously move that cumbersome metal cage or bulky plastic crate throughout your home will make house breaking a lot easier.
